Biography

Jake Sherlock is an instructor in the JMC Department with more than 30 years of experience in the classroom, in journalism and in strategic communications.

Sherlock's career began as a sportswriter at his hometown newspaper, the Laramie Boomerang, and eventually led to his position at Colorado State. Along the way, he has worked as a page designer, a copy editor, a reporter, an opinion editor, a design director, a news editor, a marketing and public relations director, a web designer, and as a college instructor and media adviser.

He has taught for the University of Missouri, the University of Wyoming, Pikes Peak State College and Laramie County Community College. He earned both of his bachelor's of journalism (1998) and his master's in media communications (2001) from the University of Wyoming.

Sherlock is also the editor of the Ramspondents project, a digital news agency that focuses on public life and safety in Fort Collins. The class is currently staffed by student reporters from JTC320A General Reporting.

Sherlock spent 10 years advising student media programs at Laramie County Community College and at CSU. In 2023, Sherlock was named Distinguished Adviser by the College Media Association.
