Biography

Manwar Hossain has expertise on the impact of digital or traditional media on mass people and the gate-keeping process of news. He has worked with different media outlets, including FM Radio and a national TV channel in Bangladesh. He has fourteen years of professional journalism experience. From 2019, he served as an adjunct faculty member at the Department of Media Studies and Journalism at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.

He earned his undergraduate degree in mass communication and journalism from the University of Dhaka.

As a Senior News Editor at 'Somoy TV,' the top-ranking news channel in Bangladesh, he was primarily responsible for looking after the news and maintaining the gatekeeping process. As a direct stakeholder, he noticed how power influences the gatekeeping function in a democratic country. As a political correspondent and talk show host, he also observed the tendency of political parties in third-world countries like Bangladesh. Manwar is also interested in media ethics, digital journalism, and multimedia storytelling. As an instructor at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, he taught courses such as News Gathering and Writing, Investigative Reporting, Business Beat Reporting, and Ethics in Media and Communications. He also served as ULAB TV's instructor, the first campus-based TV in Bangladesh.
