Multimedia and Magazine Journalism in Urbino, Italy Summer 2020
The JMC Department and the Institute for Education in International Media provides a unique, immersive, four-week, three-credit program, May 22 – June 20, 2020. Students work at their individual level on writing, reporting, video, photography, and basics of Italian language. Assignments explore culture, people, food, tourism, music, and history. Faculty are Pulitzer prize winners, former White House photographers, and U.S. professors with extensive international experience. University of Urbino students are interpreters for interviews and translations.
Student work is portfolio-quality. It is published online at Urbino Project and in Urbino Now magazine. Instruction is in English, and most students are from the U.S. CSU JMC faculty and students have been involved in this program since 2012. Students often say that it is the most remarkable experience of their college career. Urbino is a small university town and considered the birthplace of the Renaissance. It’s an easy train/bus ride to Rome, Florence, Venice, and Adriatic beaches. Students often travel on their own during three-day weekends.
Quality dorm rooms are provided. Cost of $4,995 includes tuition, instruction, field trips, room, and most meals. Airfare is separate and arranged by students. The group meets faculty at the airport in Rome for bus transportation to Urbino. Students apply through ieiMedia and credits are transferred to CSU after program completion.
